Bulls cross country secures top ten finish at Princeton; Collects victory at Canisius Alumni Classic


BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The University at Buffalo men's and women's cross country teams were both in action this week, competing in two meets across the northeast this weekend that saw the men claiming ninth place at the Princeton Invitational with a team score of 295 points, and the women securing a victory at the Canisius Alumni Classic in Delaware Park. 
On Friday at the Princeton Invitational, the UB men were able to secure a top-10 finish in the 8k event, claiming ninth in a competitive field of 20 teams. Crossing the line first for the Bulls, and continuing his outstanding 2018 campaign, was UB junior Caleb Covell. Covell crossed the line in 23rd, clocking in a season-best 8k time of 24:39.7. Not far behind him was junior William Hilbert, finishing the race in 53rd with a solid time of 25:10.2. Cal Puskarcontinued his impressive season as the freshman clocking in a time of 25:23.2, good for 70th in a deep field of 219 runners. Junior Matt Mercer and sophomore Christopher Nowak both secured top-100 finishes for UB, finishing in 82nd and 86th respectively.
The UB women were able to collect a victory Saturday afternoon at Delaware Park in Buffalo at the annual Canisius Alumni Classic in the 5k event, edging out the hosts Canisius who placed second by six points with a team score of 42. Spearheading the Bulls efforts on the afternoon was senior Lauren Reyda, finishing 3rd overall with a time of 18:16.0. On her heels was freshman Riley Jones, who continued her strong campaign with a time of 18:37.7, good for 7th. Rounding out the top-10 for Buffalo was junior Brittany Fuller (18:59.2) and junior Chardae Henry (19:08.1) who crossed the line in 9th and 10th respectively. Junior Meghan LaTuso also had a good showing for the Bulls, finishing in 13th with a time of 19:19.9.
In the Canisius Alumni Classic men's 8k race the UB men secured a third place finish in a 10 team field. Leading the way on the Delaware park course was freshman Ryan Buzby who crossed over the line in 8th place with a career-best time of 26:03.5. Closing out the top-10 was sophomore Justin Schramm who finished the race in 10th with a season-best time of 26:10.3. Also finishing well for Buffalo on the afternoon was sophomore Patrick Hazlitt (13th) and freshman Scott Loforte (16th).
The Bulls will return to action on Saturday, October 27, for the MAC Championships hosted in Toledo, Ohio.
