Canisius women’s soccer earns 1-1 draw with Quinnipiac


BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Canisius sophomore Shauna Lee scored her first goal of the season in the 38th minute to pace Canisius in a 1-1 draw with Quinnipiac Saturday afternoon at the Quinnipiac Soccer and Lacrosse Stadium in Hamden, Conn.
With the tie, the Golden Griffins improve to 4-6-4 on the season and 1-4-3 in MAAC play. The Bobcats moved to 6-6-2 and 3-2-2 in league action with the result.
Lee put the Griffs on the board in the game's 38th minute,as her first marker of the season came off an assist from junior Madeline Beaulieu. Lee's goal stands as the second of her career, while the assist for Beaulieu marks her first of the 2018 season and fourth in her career.  
Selena Salas brought the Bobcats level in the 75th minute when she received a pass across the box from Lauren Wendland and booted the ball into left corner of the net to make it a 1-1 contest.
Canisius junior goalkeeper Alana Rossi was credited with a career-high 14 saves for Canisius. 
Quinnipiac keeper Charlotte Edmunds started the game for the Bobcats before she was replaced by Olivia Myszewski in the second half. Myszewski was credited with one save in relief of Edmunds.

The Bobcats out-shot the Griffs 28-4 for the match and held a 15-2 advantage in shots on goal. Quinnipiac also held a 10-0 advantage in corner kicks for the contest.

"After coming off an overtime game on Wednesday, I think we played fantastic. The effort was there and I believed we played some really great soccer today, we did what we needed to do stay in the game and that says a lot." 
Game Notes
• This was the 9th all-time meeting between the two schools, with Quinnipiac leading the series 5-2-2.
• Rossi's 14 saves marked a career-high, surpassing her eight-save total in a match against Marist on Sept. 26, 2018.
• Saturday's draw with Quinnipiac is the second in the series history with the first occurring in the 2011 campaign.
The Griffs return to action Oct. 15 when the team travels to Delaware State. Game time in Dover, Del., is set for 1 p.m.
