Sophomore Filippo Tamburini scored the game's lone goal in the eighth minute and senior Bryce Tramutarecorded two saves to lead Canisius to a 1-0 victory over Monmouth in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference men's soccer action Saturday at Hesse Field in West Long Branch, N.J.
With the win, the Golden Griffins improved to 4-6-2 overall and 2-3-0 in league play while the Hawks slipped to 2-10-1 and 0-6-0 with the setback.
Tamburini put the Griffs in front just 7:58 into the contest with an unassisted effort as he placed a shot just inside the left post for his fourth of the campaign.
Canisius almost doubled its advantage in the 80th minute, but a shot from junior Troy Brady found the crossbar and stayed out.
That would be all the support Tramuta would need, stopping both shots he faced to record his fourth shutout of the season.
