Late goal by Delaware State topples Canisius women's soccer

Game Recap
Canisius freshman Hannah Morpurgo scored her first career goal in the 54th minute, but it was not enough for the Golden Griffins, who fell by the score of 2-1 at Delaware State in non-conference women's soccer action Monday afternoon in Dover, Del.
With the win, Hornets improved to 3-10-2 on the year, while Canisius fell to 4-7-4 with the loss.
After a scoreless first half, Morpurgo put the Blue and Gold up 1-0 with her first collegiate goal off an assist from teammate Madeline Beaulieu. The Griffs held the lead until the 70th minute, when Delaware State's Alexa Gibbs put a shot from inside the box past Canisius sophomore goalkeeper Bailey Fenwick-Miller to knot the match at 1-1.

In the closing seconds of regulation time, the Hornets scored the game winner with 53 seconds left on the clock when Jade Jamison settled a free-kick in the box and beat Canisius goalie Alana Rossi to make the score 2-1 in favor of Delaware State.

Rossi, who started the game for the Griffs and then returned midway through the second half, was credited with two saves in the loss. Delaware State keeper Leslie Fazio made two stops en route to the victory.

The Hornets held a 4-3 advantage in shots on goal and a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks for the contest.
Head Coach Todd Clark's Postgame Comments
"Delaware State deserves the credit for the win today. They worked hard on the field and it showed. It does not do us any good to blame players when we lose. We play as a team, we win as a team, and we lose as a team."
