RIVERDALE, N.Y. -- The Niagara Purple Eagles allowed a late penalty kick goal in overtime to fall to the Manhattan Jaspers, 1-0, on Saturday.
An overtime penalty kick goal by the Manhattan Jaspers was the deciding factor in today's contest. The Purple Eagles had a 17-13 shot advantage, including outshooting the Jaspers 5-1 in the first period.  However, neither team could break the deadlock in regulation. The game looked poise for a scoreless draw until Manhattan was awarded a penalty kick in the 105th minute.

  • The Purple Eagles had a pair of chances in the 29th and 30th minutes with efforts from Kelsey Araujo and Hailey Bicknell.
  • Araujo also pulled her shot wide in the 35th minute.
  • Bicknell had a pair of shots blocked in the 47th and 49th minutes.
  • NU had two close chances 11 seconds apart in the 82nd minute from Bayley Sullivan and Selena Mangoni.
  • Niagara's best chance came with 10 seconds left in the first overtime period when Araujo's shot hit the crossbar.
  • In the 105th minute, the Jaspers were given a penalty after a handball in the box. Bri DeLeo converted for her second goal of the season.

  • "Everyone is extremely disappointed with our performance today.  We were not sharp and we struggled to play the way we're capable of playing.  At this point, we need to put this game quickly behind us and get ready for our next game.  We have great character on this team so I'm confident we will be bounce back." – head coach Peter Veltri

  • The Purple Eagles will play at archrival Canisius on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
