Higgins announces $450,000 in funding for Niagara Falls International Airport

Congressman Brian Higgins (NY-26) announced two federal grants to the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority (NFTA) for improvements at the Niagara Falls International Airport. The grants were awarded by the Federal Aviation Administration, under the US Department of Transportation.

The first grant is in the amount of $135,000 and will go to removing trees that obstruct two of the airport's runways and approach surfaces.

The second grant for $315,000 will support the design phase for reconstruction of portions of taxiway pavement that have reached the end of its useful life.

Congressman Higgins said: "This funding from the Federal Aviation Administration will further improve one of Western New York's critical points of infrastructure and help to enhance safe and efficient service to travelers at the Niagara Falls International Airport."

Kimberley Minkel, NFTA executive director, said, "We are very thankful for Congressman Higgins and his continued support of both the Niagara Falls and Buffalo International airports. The continued efforts of Congressman Higgins, and the WNY delegation to support the mission of the NFTA are extraordinarily beneficial to the entire Western New York community."

The Niagara Falls Airport has a long history dating back to military relationships formed prior to WWII and continuing with today's close relationship with the Niagara Falls Air Force Reserve Station. Several commercial airlines operate out of the airport serving close to 300,000 passengers annually, 75% of which originate from Canada.
