Wings drop series opener 3-1

The Rochester Red Wings got an early home run from Tomas Telis and a strong start from Adam Bray,  but the Louisville Bats rallied for a 3-1 win Friday night at Frontier Field. The series continues Saturday with a 7:05 p.m. game (gates open early at 6 p.m.), featuring a performance by the ZOOperstars! and fireworks after the game.
Both Red Wings starter Adam Bray, and Louisville starter Vladamir Gutierrez were able to hold the opposing lineup scoreless through the first three innings. Rochester finally broke the scoreless tie in the bottom of the fourth with a solo home run off the bat of Tomas Telis. His eighth home run of the season gave the Wings a 1-0 lead.
Before Jake Reed came on in relief to start the fifth, Bray finished his outing throwing 4.0 innings, allowing three hits, one walk, and striking out three. 40 of his 67 pitches were for strikes. Reed threw 2.0 scoreless innings with two strikeouts.
Fernando Romero entered the game to begin the seventh and surrendered the lead to the Bats. After recording the first two outs of the inning, Romero gave up back-to-back singles to Jose Siri, and Mitch Nay, who both came around to score on a double into the left field corner by Blake Trahan, putting Louisville out in front by a score of 2-1.
Gutierrez finished his outing going 6.0 innings, while allowing three hits, one earned run, one walk, and striking out four. He threw 89 pitches, 62 for strikes.
The Bats extended their lead against Romero in the eighth. Ryan Lavarnway reached base with a single and came around to score on a throwing error by Drew Maggi. Romero was pulled from the game during the eighth after pitching 1.2 innings and was replaced by Jeremy Bleich who registered the third out of the inning with a strikeout.
